Air quality is disintegrating drastically because of different reasons. Construction site pollutants add to this present problem and form health hazards for its enclosing habitats.
FREMONT, CA: The mainstay of economic development is infrastructure. Building construction turns a never-ending circle as cities and suburbs proceed to develop. The construction of infrastructure will contribute immensely to the modernization of those communities. Still, it also brings multiple problems - one of which is the pollution contributing to its ongoing expansion.
Of the multiple factors contributing to air pollution, climate variation, water pollution, and landfill waste, 23 % is caused by the construction industry. Construction sites can transmit diverse contaminants to the human body, causing permanent illnesses for those who work or live near them. Furthermore, construction sites produce a variety of contaminants from the materials utilized on the site that contribute to the creation of various types of pollution. One of the most significant polluters on a construction site is air pollution. Different contaminants, like dust and flies, can swiftly spread through the air.

PM10 is a greatly prevalent air contaminant. Unseeable to the naked eye, these are particles less than 10 microns in diameter. PM10 is a joint term used to explain a large quantity of construction dust produced from cement, concrete, silica, and wood in the construction industry. PM 2.5 and PM 10 emissions are connected with construction sites accountable for these emissions. There are 14.5 % and 8 % of these pollutants in the air, respectively.
Flora and fauna have to deal with survival tasks causing biodiversity loss and food chain disorder.
Outcomes of air pollution
On employees: Researchers have performed extensive studies on PM10. These studies demonstrated that this contaminant could permeate deep into the lungs of those in direct contact with polluted air and inhale it when airborne. Consequently, a high risk of health complications can occur for employees working on construction sites because of the inhalation of poor-quality air from working on construction sites. Construction site workers confront common health problems, respiratory diseases, lung cancer, and cardiovascular diseases.
On residents: Numerous people living near the plant suffer from the side effects of air pollution, including the employees who have direct contact with the air pollution. The effect of poor air quality persists long after the project has been achieved, although they are not near the pollutants. Air pollutants like PM10 spread easily by the wind surrounding an area and can settle for years.
On the environment: Multiple factors contribute to environmental pollution, and many of these are famous. PM2.5 emissions from construction sites account for 14.5%, and PM10 emissions for 8%- including machinery, generators, construction, and demolition activities. In the company of this contamination, plants and animals struggle to succeed, causing biodiversity loss and disturbing the food chain.
