One such approach is fog harvesting, where water is collected from fog in places that don’t get much rain, like northern Chile. This method works well in areas that experience a lot of fog. In addition, rainwater harvesting is used in cities and rural communities worldwide to collect and store rainwater, which helps lessen dependence on regular water sources.
Desalination technologies have also advanced a lot. It has become cheaper and less environmentally harmful, making it a promising option for coastal regions struggling with water supply. This technology turns seawater into freshwater, providing a reliable alternative.
In farming, smart irrigation systems are making a difference by scheduling watering based on current soil conditions and weather forecasts. This approach not only saves water but also boosts crop production. Additionally, there are systems to recycle greywater from everyday activities like washing and bathing, allowing it to be reused for things like watering plants or flushing toilets, which helps to protect our precious freshwater resources.

These efforts help protect neighborhoods and essential structures, reducing the damage caused by floods and other climate-related events.
In cities, using flood-resistant building materials like permeable pavements is becoming common. This helps lessen surface runoff and lets water soak into the ground, which can stop flooding. Green roofs and urban trees are also becoming more popular. These natural features soak up rainwater, clean the air, and keep buildings insulated, making cities more sustainable.
